Environmental Control Committee (ECC)

Pete Fantle reporting

  • Boat mooring requests must be submitted to and approved by the ECC. The ECC must approve a mooring location before boat placement. If you haven’t heard back from the ECC, please reach out before your boat is delivered.
  • The recommendation is to wait to treat the highly invasive Milfoil until 2024. The estimated cost for the initial treatment is $9,018. Follow up treatments should be less expensive. Milfoil is a very invasive plant and needs to be brought under control for the health of the lake.
  • 2023 has been a bad year for unwanted aquatic plants in Lake Brittany as well as other lakes. The ECC is aware of this and is currently doing what is possible and feasible to remedy this situation.
  • The ECC strongly urges residents not to cut the Milfoil or other aquatic plants. Improper cutting of Milfoil only causes the highly invasive weed to spread.
  • Shoreline pruning will be done starting this fall along with continued treatment of invasive shoreline plants.
  • More gravel has been added to the rain garden.
  • Four trees will be removed and cottonwoods by the volleyball court will be trimmed by Nellen. The cost is $4,000 including flush cut stumps for 3 trees and stump grinding for 1 tree. Work is scheduled to begin in August.
  • The current ECC plan with regard to trees is that 4 trees will be removed each year going forward.
  • Milfoil is being addressed by the ECC and is most likely coming from geese.
  • It is important to hose off your watercraft if it has been used in another lake or body of water prior to launching it into Lake Brittany. Rinsing your watercraft will help prevent further spread of Milfoil and transfers of other organisms into our lake.
  • Please see the dossier, for further information and education on aquatic plants including beneficial aquatic plants.
